Ediza Fire by Mason Cummings on Flickr.
Ediza Lake in the Ansel Adams Wilderness has been near the top of my list for several years, so I was thrilled to finally make the trip and get conditions like this to boot. We decided to take advantage of the minimal Sierra snowpack and make the somewhat grueling three-day trip from the Bay Area to the Eastern Sierra. I couldn’t have asked for a better first backcountry trip of the season - this one will stand out for me for some time to come. This image was taken just above Ediza Lake to round out a day of dramatic weather and amazing light. An afternoon thunderstorm cleared just in time for sunset, creating one of the most vibrant displays I’ve seen in a while.
